Christmas Art Gift Guide: Signed Prints by Budget and by Person
By Alexander van der Meer·· 7 min read
A signed print is one of the few Christmas presents that posts flat, needs no size and is still on the wall in March. Here are ideas by budget and by person, and the dates to order by.

The simplest art gift for Christmas is a signed print in the 40×30 cm format, which costs €65 or €95 here, posts flat in a tube and needs no size from you. To have it arrive before 24 December, order by 18 December within the Netherlands, by 11 December elsewhere in the EU, and by 8 December for the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or the United States. Those dates come from our standard delivery estimate; aim a few days earlier, because December post is slower than any estimate.
The rest of this guide is about choosing: what to give at each budget, what suits each kind of person on your list, and how to send it so the parcel feels like a present rather than a delivery.
Why a print works as a Christmas present
Most December gifts fail in one of three ways: they are the wrong size, they are used up by January, or they are the same thing someone else gave. A signed print avoids all three. Prints ship unframed and rolled in a rigid tube, so there is no size to get wrong and the recipient chooses a frame that suits their own wall. Nothing is consumed. And every work here is a limited edition of 25, hand-signed by the artist, so it is very unlikely anyone else at the table has the same one.
It is also a gift with a story attached. Each piece is by a named, independent artist, and the artist pages say who they are and how they work. That is something concrete to write in the card.
Christmas art gifts by budget
Prices in the gallery sit at five points, and each is a real choice rather than a step on a ladder. The 40×30 cm prints are €65, €95 or €145; the 60×40 cm prints are €145, €195 or €295. All of them are signed limited editions on premium photographic paper. The difference between price points is format and edition, not quality.
€65: the Secret Santa and the stocking filler
The €65 prints are the accessible end of the gallery and the easiest way to give real art inside a normal Christmas budget. Monochrome landscape and city work does best here, because it does not need to agree with a colour scheme you have never seen. Shrouded in Mist by LumièreVue, cliffs above a restless sea in black and white, and Ephemeral Paris by Moroz, the Eiffel Tower in fog, are two pieces that suit almost any wall.
€95: the main present for a friend or sibling
At €95 the choice widens into colour and premium photography. Golden Elegance by Serena, wine glasses in warm ambient light, is about as festive as a photograph gets without being seasonal, so it does not need taking down in January. For someone who likes colour, Explosive Growth by Litvin is a bright, angular mixed-media abstract. The whole edit is in art under €100.
€145–€195: a partner or a parent
This is where the 60×40 cm format begins, and a larger print reads as a considered present rather than a token. It suits someone whose home you know well enough to picture the wall: above a sideboard, at the end of a hallway, over the bed. The Quiet Catch by Henri des Bois, an old fisherman resting by a river, is €145 at 60×40 cm and has the kind of gentle subject that suits a parent's living room.
€175 and up: a set of three
For a couple, a new home or one big family present, a curated set does what a single print cannot: it fills a wall. Our gallery-wall sets start at €175 for Alpine Light and €230 for City Lines. Every set clears the €175 threshold, so delivery within the EU is free.
The same threshold applies to any order. Two €95 prints come to €190, so if you are buying for two people, putting both in one basket saves the delivery charge on each.
Christmas art gifts by person
- The art lover who already owns art. Give an artist they do not have yet rather than more of what is on their walls. The edition is the detail that matters to them: tell them it is one of 25 and that the product page shows how many remain.
- Parents and grandparents. Landscape and nature are the subjects that almost nobody dislikes. Start with landscapes and nature.
- The city lover or the traveller. A place they love, in monochrome. Our cityscapes and black-and-white collections are the right shelves.
- A colleague or Secret Santa. Stay at €65, stay calm, and avoid portraits and anything with a strong colour. A quiet sea or mountain is right for a desk wall.
- The person who has everything. They have the gadgets but rarely buy art for their own walls. See the gifts for him and gifts for her edits, which are cut by subject.
- Friends who have just moved. Choose something quiet, because the room is not finished yet. The housewarming edit is built for that.
If you are still unsure, our guide to choosing art as a gift covers the general method: read the room they live in rather than guessing at their taste.
Order-by dates for Christmas 2026
Prints are made and signed to order rather than taken off a shelf, so allow for that. Every product page shows a delivery estimate calculated from the day you order: 1–2 business days to pack, then transit to your country. Counting back from Thursday 24 December, the latest order dates on that estimate are:
- Netherlands (1–2 days in transit): Friday 18 December
- European Union (3–7 days): Friday 11 December
- UK, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland (5–10 days): Tuesday 8 December
- United States (5–10 days): Tuesday 8 December
The estimate skips weekends but not public holidays, and carriers run slower in the weeks before Christmas than at any other time of year. Treat these as the last possible dates and aim to order a week sooner. For deliveries outside the EU, the recipient pays any import duties, so mention that to them if the parcel is going straight to their door. Full rates and times are on the delivery page.
Sending it as a present
- Ship it straight to them. Enter the recipient's address as the delivery address. At the busiest time of the year for post, sending the print directly takes a leg out of the journey.
- No price in the parcel. The despatch note does not show a price. If you would like a note included, say so through the contact form with your order number and it is handled by hand before the parcel ships.
- Leave the frame to them. A frame chosen by someone who has not seen the wall is the quickest way to make a good print look wrong. The print arrives unframed so the choice stays with the person who will live with it.
- Returns run from delivery. An unframed print in original condition can be returned within 14 days of delivery, so a present bought in early December can still be exchanged once it has been opened.
We do not sell gift cards. If you genuinely cannot choose, the enquiry form on the gifts page is the better route: give the occasion and the budget, and we come back with three or four specific suggestions.
To go straight to the shortlist, the Christmas edit gathers 24 signed prints from €65 to €95, or browse the full gallery.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a good art gift for Christmas?
- A signed print in a medium format is the easiest choice: it posts flat, needs no size from you and lasts for decades. At ArtMarket the 40×30 cm prints cost €65 or €95, every one is a hand-signed limited edition of 25, and it ships unframed so the recipient picks a frame for their own room.
- When should I order art to arrive before Christmas?
- On our standard delivery estimate, order by 18 December for the Netherlands, 11 December for the rest of the EU, and 8 December for the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and the United States. The estimate skips weekends but not holidays, and December post is slow, so aim to order about a week earlier.
- What art can I give for under €100?
- Every 40×30 cm print priced €65 or €95 is under €100, and they are signed by the same artists on the same premium paper as the rest of the gallery. Monochrome landscape and city work is the safest choice when you do not know the recipient's walls; the art under €100 collection gathers them all.
- What do you give an art lover who already owns art?
- Give an artist they do not own yet rather than more of what is already on their walls, and make the edition the point: each work is one of 25, signed by the artist, and never reprinted once sold out. The artist page gives you a story to write in the card.
- Can I send the print directly to the person I am giving it to?
- Yes. Enter their address as the delivery address at checkout. The despatch note does not show a price, and if you want a note included you can ask through the contact form with your order number before the parcel ships.
- What if they do not like it?
- An unframed print in original condition can be returned within 14 days of delivery for a refund. Because the window runs from delivery rather than from the order, a present bought in early December can still be returned after it has been opened.
