Monochrome

Black & white wall art

Black-and-white art strips a scene back to its essentials — light, shadow, texture and form. Without colour to lead the eye, composition and contrast do the work, which is exactly why monochrome prints feel so timeless and so at home in modern interiors.

This collection gathers the gallery's strongest monochrome work: architectural photography, moody portraiture and abstract studies in grey. Every piece is signed and printed on premium paper, ready to frame.

30 monochrome works, priced €65–€295, chosen for how they behave on a wall rather than by medium. Black-and-white prints hold a room without competing with its colours, which is why they suit busy or heavily patterned interiors. All are hand-signed and ship unframed.

Works in Black & White

Why monochrome is the easiest thing to hang

A black-and-white print has no colour to argue with. That single fact is why these 30 works place more easily than anything else in the gallery: they sit against a bold paint colour, a patterned wallpaper or a room full of mismatched furniture without adding another voice to the argument.

It is also why monochrome is the standard answer to a wall that has already gone wrong. If a room feels busy and you cannot say why, the piece that calms it is almost never another colour — it is a print that takes colour off the table entirely and gives the eye somewhere quiet to rest.

What separates a good monochrome print from a grey one

Tonal separation. A weak black-and-white print collapses everything dark into a single flat black and everything light into paper white, and the image dies in the middle. A good one holds distinct steps between the deepest shadow and the brightest highlight, which is where the form actually lives.

This is the category where paper matters most. Every print here is produced on premium photographic paper, which is what keeps those middle greys separated, and each is hand-signed by its artist, priced €65–€295.

Framing black and white

Slim frames in black, dark walnut or natural oak. Ornate or heavily moulded frames fight a monochrome image because the frame becomes the only decorative element in view, and it wins.

Give it a wide mat — 6 to 8 cm on the sides and a little more at the bottom. On a colour print a mat is breathing room; on a monochrome one it is part of the composition, extending the paper white until the blacks read as deep as they were printed. Sizes in this edit run 40×30 – 60×40 cm.

Questions about black & white prints

Does black-and-white art work with a colourful room?

Better than anything else. A monochrome print has no colour to clash with, so it sits against a bold paint colour, patterned wallpaper or mismatched furniture without adding another voice. It is the standard fix for a room that already feels busy.

What should I look for in a black-and-white print?

Tonal separation. A weak monochrome print collapses the darks into one flat black and the lights into paper white, and the image dies in the middle. A good one holds distinct steps between the deepest shadow and the brightest highlight, which is where the form lives.

What frame suits a monochrome print?

A slim frame in black, dark walnut or natural oak, with a wide mat of 6–8 cm. Ornate mouldings fight a black-and-white image because the frame becomes the only decorative element in view. On monochrome the mat is part of the composition, not just breathing room.

Are the black-and-white prints signed?

Yes. Every work in this edit is a limited edition of 25, hand-signed by the artist who made it, usually on the reverse so the signature does not compete with the image once framed.

How much is delivery, and where do you ship?

Every print is shipped rolled in a protective tube from the Netherlands, dispatched in 1–2 business days. Delivery is €8 within the Netherlands, €18 across the European Union, €30 to the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland, €55 to the United States, €80 to the Gulf states and €95 to East and Southeast Asia. Orders over €175 ship free within the Netherlands and the European Union.

Can I return a print if it does not work in the room?

Yes — you can return an unframed print in original condition within 14 days of delivery for a refund to the original payment method. Prints ship unframed, so as long as it has not been mounted or trimmed it can go back.
